Did UCLA Football have the best quarterback haul in 2023?

UCLA football is on the rise under Chip Kelly and 247 sports rates the Bruins as having the best QB haul of the 2023 offseason. 

There were plenty of college football teams that were able to be successful when it comes to quarterback recruiting and in the 2023 cycle, no one was better than UCLA football.

Plenty of teams did really well and not every team needed what the Bruins needed, which was a talented freshman and a veteran to potentially help replace former UCLA football starting quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

There’s no doubt that Texas is another big winner when it comes to quarterback recruiting. The Horns landed the top freshman in Arch Manning and frankly, the Horns didn’t need another arm.

Neither did Tennessee which also landed a QB prospect with a 100 grade, just as UCLA football did with five-star signee Dante Moore. Nico Iamaleava is a game-changer for the Vols.

There were some other college football programs that signed really solid freshman and transfer portal quarterbacks, Notre Dame being among them. The Irish landed Sam Hartman, the top transfer QB and Kenny Minchey who is rated as a 93 as a freshman.

Why UCLA football ranks above

Dante Moore is the future for UCLA football but people can’t forget about Collin Schlee, the former Kent State starter that was rated as the No. 5 QB in the transfer portal by 247 sports.

He’s got a 92 grade from 247 sports, which is just a couple of points behind Hartman. He’s a three-year starter and he didn’t join the UCLA football program to ride the pine. Schlee could have started at plenty of other places.

So, UCLA football added two players that can potentially help them this season. One is a proven veteran and the other is a star in the making. Dante Moore showed what he can do in the All-American Bowl and I think he has every bit of the upside that Manning does.

Moore is that talented of a passer and he’s as good as any 2023 quarterback. You can say the same about Schlee when it comes to the transfer portal, so it’s easy to make the case that UCLA football was the top program in 2023 when it comes to recruiting quarterbacks.
