For the second straight year, Jimbo Fisher makes my list of most overrated SEC football coaches and it really shouldn’t surprise anyone at this point.

The only real question is: does anyone even rate Fisher anymore?

I would say that Fisher will always be somewhat overrated because of the national title that he won at Florida State and that’s fair. It’s not easy to win a national title and Fisher’s 2013 team was special but he hasn’t even sniffed that same type of success since. It’s been 10 years and it feels like he’s a completely different coach.

After an 83-23 tenure at Florida State, he took the Texas A&M job and has gone just 39-21 in five years. He’s never won more than nine games in a single season but he’s also only won fewer than eight games once (a bowl-less 2022 season).

That may not seem horrible, but for a coach who got the contract that Fisher did as well as the talent that he’s bringing in with every recruiting class, it’s far short of expectations.

Was Fisher just better suited for the ACC? That’s possible, but his time seems to be running out at Texas A&M. He could only skate by on his national title from a decade ago for so long.
