Spring is upon us and college football fans are already chomping at the bit for some real action. Spring games are great and all, but that doesn’t beat what the regular season has to offer.

It feels like a year since we saw a football game but we still have to wait about five more for the first game of the season. But that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate which teams are going to compete for a national title or which coaches could be on the hot seat.

For now, I’ll be focusing on the latter.

It’s a way-too-early look, but these five head coaches are on the hottest seats heading into spring ball and they need some serious momentum heading into 2023.

You might be surprised to see Mario Cristobal on this list, but after the first year he had, it would not be shocking to see his seat really heat up if his Hurricanes fail to make a bowl game again.

Let’s say Miami goes 5-7 or worse once again in 2023. There’s just no chance that fans will be on board with that kind of mediocrity, especially after the program paid big money to steal him from Oregon before the 2022 season. Don’t forget that people turned on Manny Diaz after he went 21-15 in three seasons with the Hurricanes. Imagine what they’d do with a 10-14 start to a tenure.

Cristobal is facing a ton of pressure this season not just because he was brought to Miami to lead the Hurricanes back to national relevance, but also because he’s been recruiting at a high level.

How the heck can a team with this talent not compete in a winnable ACC?
