Wisconsin Football: Three impactful newcomers for the Badgers
By Dante Pryor
2. Tanner Mordecai, Quarterback (Transfer)
The Badgers found their quarterback of the present and the future in the transfer portal. The top three quarterbacks on the roster are all from the transfer portal. Redshirt freshmen Nick Evers and Braedyn Locke joined the Badgers via the portal, and SMU transfer Tanner Mordecai should start day one, barring injury.
Mordecai, who began his career at Oklahoma, fits into the Badgers’ new-look scheme. He succeeded at SMU under former head coach Sonny Dykes and current head coach Rhett Lashlee; both are Air-Raid disciples. Mordecai should have little problem adjusting to what Phil Longo wants to do offensively.
Also, this is the best offensive line he’s ever played behind. In addition, Mordecai can hand the ball to a pre-season Heisman Watchlist candidate in Braelon Allen. An efficient Mordecai, coupled with arguably the best running back in the Big Ten, could be a headache for opposing defensive coordinators.
Mordecai gives the Badgers a solid veteran quarterback that could facilitate a quick turnaround in Madison. You also have to like that there shouldn’t be much drop-off next season with two talented frosh quarterbacks waiting in the wings.
