Georgia Football: Will Brock Vandagriff enter transfer portal?
If Georgia football quarterback Brock Vandagriff enters the transfer portal, it would be big news as teams would likely pounce on the former 5-star QB.
Georgia football held its annual spring game over the weekend and one thing we learned is that Carson Beck is pretty good.
Beck was definitely the best of the three quarterbacks on Saturday. He threw for over 200 yards and while Kirby Smart said he wasn’t going to name a starter after spring ball, it seems pretty clear that Beck has separated himself on the depth chart.
Former five-star QB Brock Vandagriff had a solid performance too but he got just six pass attempts. He completed five for 80 yards and a touchdown but also threw an interception.
Could Brock Vandagriff enter the transfer portal?
There has been speculation that Brock Vandagriff, a five-star quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class, could leave Georgia football and enter the transfer portal.
In a recent interview with On3.com, Vandagriff talked about why he has stayed with the Bulldogs, however, it will be interesting to see if those feelings change now that spring ball is wrapped up.
It’s one thing when you believe you have the chance to be a starter. Smart has been vague about the competition probably because he doesn’t want to lose a quarterback to the transfer portal.
Georgia didn’t sign a quarterback in 2023, so it doesn’t want to lose a potential starter. At the same time, Brock Vandagriff is probably good enough to start somewhere next season and if he entered the transfer portal, he’d have a slew of SEC offers, plus chances to play in every major conference in the country.
Smart and Georgia football have done a good job of keeping the guys that they want out of the transfer portal and we’ll see if they are able to do that again at the quarterback position.
Beck looked really good on Saturday and for my money, he’s going to be the starting quarterback next season for the Bulldogs. Yet, if you are Smart and UGA, you want to keep as many quality quarterbacks as you can, which includes Brock Vandagriff.
Will he stay? Only Vandagriff knows the answer to that, but if he did enter the transfer portal, my guess is that he wouldn’t stick around long.
However, if UGA is able to keep him, that will be a win for the Bulldogs and another sign of why this program has become the envy of everyone in college football.
