Notre Dame football won’t have a QB competition after all this fall as Tyler Buchner has entered the transfer portal. Here are three ideal landing spots.

You can bet that a bunch of college football teams have been waiting for a starting-caliber quarterback or two to hit the transfer portal this spring and finally, on Tuesday, one came available as Notre Dame football QB Tyler Buchner has entered the transfer portal according to ESPN.

It’s not shocking when you consider that Notre Dame football added Sam Hartman in the transfer portal. It also became clear this spring who the starter was going to be.

Hartman could be prepping for the NFL draft right now. Instead, he’ll attempt to get Notre Dame football back to the playoff. For Buchner, it meant a year as a backup and on Tuesday, it became clear that he would rather have a chance to start somewhere else.

Buchner just entered the transfer portal. He could return to Notre Dame football if he wanted but we know that rarely happens, especially with big-name teams in need of a QB. Yet, Pete Thamel did include in his report that a return is possible.

With that in mind, here are three potential fits for former Notre Dame QB Tyler Buchner.

Alabama

Former Notre Dame OC Tommy Rees is the play-caller at Alabama now and there have been rumblings that Nick Saban is interested in another quarterback.

Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson were less than impressive during the Alabama spring game. There were moments but nobody has seized control of the starting job. Buchner was ranked 71st overall in the 2021 class.

Buchner struggled at the start season of last season but played well in the Gator Bowl completing 18 of 33 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. He also had three interceptions.

So would Saban view him as an upgrade? Could it just add more depth? Buchner would have to beat out some other talented quarterbacks to win the job, but if his former quarterbacks’ coach wants him, it might be tough to say no.
