3. Florida

Another SEC team that could use a quarterback is Florida. The Gators were supposed to have Jaden Rashada in their quarterback room this season but he’s now at Arizona State.

Florida added Graham Mertz during the winter transfer portal window. He struggled during the spring game and so did former Ohio State quarterback Jack Miller.

Billy Napier definitely could use a winning season and it has felt like if the chance to upgrade at quarterback, the Gators would try and take it.

Buchner might not be an upgrade. However, he’s got some dual-threat ability and he’s definitely got more upside than Mertz, at least in my opinion.

And if Mertz could beat out Bucnher, you’d have to feel better about him going into next season. Buchner also has three years of eligibility left, so even if he doesn’t become the starter this season, he could have a role to play in the future.

Ideally, Bucnher probably wants to go to a team where he’ll get the chance to start for multiple seasons and develop. He’s from California, so a program out West would make sense, but neither USC nor UCLA has a need for a quarterback now or in the future.

Next. Spring College Football Playoff and Bowl Projections. dark

It will be interesting to see who reaches out, but these three SEC teams do have a need at quarterback and Buchner is probably the best option available.
