The latest on Tyler Buchner, who has entered the transfer portal and has visits set up, plus Oregon is trending for a top QB in the 2024 college football recruiting class.

One of the biggest news items when it comes to college football recruiting on Tuesday was the fact that Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner entered the transfer portal.

Buchner was a top-100 recruit in the 2021 class and is clearly the most talented option available in the transfer portal. Quarterbacks are the crown jewel of college football recruiting and with a number of teams in need of one, it’s not surprising that Tyler Buchner is getting lots of attention.

I tossed out three SEC teams that should contact Tyler Buchner and so far, two of them have. Auburn is one and Alabama is the other according to a report from 247 Sports. We wondered if Nick Saban would think highly enough of Buchner to pursue him, but clearly, he feels the Alabama QB room needs another body.

Buchner is kind of unproven in his own right but threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns in the Gator Bowl. He also had three interceptions. Tommy Rees, his former OC at Notre Dame, is now the OC at Alabama which should also help the cause of the Crimson Tide.

Yet, at Auburn, it seems like Buchner would have a clearer path to becoming the starter and for multiple years. Hugh Freeze is also known as a QB guru, so don’t discount the Tigers at all.

4-star Michael Van Buren trending to Oregon

Things can change in an instant in college football recruiting and Penn State fans are learning that lesson right now.

It wasn’t long ago that the Nittany Lions were the favorite for Michael Van Buren, one of the top uncommitted quarterbacks left in the 2024 college football recruiting class.

Yet, Van Buren recently visited Oregon and now, he’s trending with expert projections to the Ducks led by Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports. Out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, the 5-foot-11, 185-pounder is ranked as the 11th-best QB in the 2024 class. He’s also 130th overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Van Buren is a little on the short side. But he’s a dynamic athlete who has a great arm. He would have been a great fit for Penn State under James Franklin and it was headed that way, but now Oregon is trending hard and should land his commitment.

It will also be interesting to see how those crystal balls impact Luke Moga. Moga is a three-star QB ranked 32nd at the position via the 247 Sports composite rankings that is set to announce a commitment on April 28th. Oregon was expected to get it, but that was before the recent development with Van Buren.

dark. Next. Where top 5 uncommitted QBs will land in 2024

Either the Ducks will get two talented quarterbacks or another (Moga) will be sort of back on the market before he was even taken off.
