There are some deep quarterback rooms in college football heading into the 2024 season and here are the top five.

Looking ahead to the 2023 college football season, there are some really talented quarterbacks and a recent mock draft by CBS Sports actually had five going in the first round in the 2024 NFL draft.

Caleb Williams is obviously projected as the No. 1 overall pick. Drake Maye is also projected to go in the top five, while the others are Quinn Ewers, Michael Penix Jr., and Bo Nix.

It brought up an interesting question to me about which teams have the best quarterback rooms in college football heading into this season. When considering the entire depth chart, it’s a little different than just the starter.

Michigan has one of the best quarterbacks in college football in J.J. McCarthy, but the Wolverines won’t be on this list. North Carolina won’t be either. Even some teams with unsettled quarterback situations are on the list due to overall talent, so there could be some interesting debates.

But from my perspective, here are the top five college football quarterback rooms going into the 2023 season.

5. Ohio State

The Buckeyes make the list because they have two former top-100 quarterbacks ready to start. Kyle McCord is expected to be the starter next season but there is still a competition with former top-100 2022 quarterback Devin Brown.

Michigan fans would be correct to say that McCarthy is better than both and I buy that argument for now, but based on the history of Ryan Day, whoever starts will be productive.

C.J. Stroud was ranked very similarly to both guys. He was a four-star recruit and looked elite once he got on the field, which it was I expect to happen this season. And even if McCord doesn’t succeed, the Buckeyes have another elite talent, which most other programs don’t.
