The spring game at Georgia football threw up a few potential position battles, we take a look at who could top the depth chart come opening weekend.

Having lost 25 players to the NFL in the past two drafts, restocking the depth chart is always the biggest challenge a National Champion faces. However, Kirby Smart and his Georgia football coaching staff have excelled on the recruiting trail.

That has created a competitive environment, and while most spots are cut and dried, there remains a handful of question marks.

The biggest one is the quarterback position but since Carson Beck appears to have solidified his slot as the starter, we take a look at the three next most interesting position battles going into the season.

3. Daylen Everette vs Smoke Bouie

The Bulldogs lost Kelee Ringo and Christopher Smith from their secondary this offseason. Even with those experienced names leaving, the position group still seems to be a strength. Malaki Starks had an excellent freshman year at safety. While Tykee Smith and Javon Bullard look set to play some combination of the other safety spot and nickel.

The only question remains who will line up across from junior corner Kamari Lassiter?

If you want a like-for-like Ringo replacement, it has to be second-year man Daylen Everette. He is 6’1 and 190 lbs, the type of build that screams physical, press-man corner. He only took 125 snaps in 2022 but looks like the favorite to take the spot.

However, nobody really claimed the corner role in the spring game, so the door is ajar for Smoke Bouie. He arrives from SEC rivals Texas A&M, after a difficult freshman year. He was suspended for violating team rules and is looking to get his career back on track in Georgia.

Bouie is a more diminutive 5’11 and played as a slot corner in College Station. He was a four-star recruit at the safety position, highlighting his versatility. As things stand, he looks likely to compete for starting snaps on the outside.
