Texas A&M football wrapped up a critical spring. The Aggies are in a weird spot after landing the No. 1 recruiting class in the country last offseason as they are fresh off a 5-7 season and a missed bowl.

At Texas A&M, missing bowl games isn’t going to earn you many second chances, but Jimbo Fisher’s massive contract and some belief from the athletic department in him still have led to another shot to prove himself. Will he be able to turn things around and get Texas A&M back to the top of the SEC and contending for titles?

It’s tough to tell after spring ball, but the quarterback play should undoubtedly improve with Conner Weigman leading the way. He’ll also have a multitude of elite weapons to throw the ball to such as Moose Muhammad III, Evan Stewart, and Grand Valley transfer Jahdae Walker. Plus, there are some really talented freshmen coming in.

Defensively, the Aggies have three really solid defensive backs coming in via the portal so the secondary should improve. The defensive front has a number of former top prospects so I can see the line being a strength as well. I see this defense improving either way.

Realistic post-spring expectations for Texas A&M

So what are the expectations for this team after spring ball and a 5-7 season?

Judging by the improved offense and defense, I have to say that making a bowl game should be the bare minimum for the Aggies.

Looking at the schedule, the sure wins have to be New Mexico, ULM, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Abilene Christian. So at the very least, Texas A&M should match its win total from last year with just these five games. There are some games that I lean win for the Aggies such as Miami and South Carolina. The rest of the schedule is either 50/50 or I’m leaning loss.

A realistic expectation for this team heading into the season with better quarterback play and more offensive weapons would have to be 7-5. I think 8-4 is possible and 6-6 is the floor, but I’m going with a 7-5 predictions.
