Oklahoma football missed out on one of its top recruiting targets in the 2024 class this past weekend.

Four-star Xadavien Sims committed to Oregon over the home-state Sooners and it just felt like Oklahoma let one get away. He was in the Sooners’ own backyard and opted to go across the country to play for the Ducks.

This comes one year after losing top defensive line target Bai Jobe to Michigan State.

Frustrations from some fans on message boards boiled over and they made it to “Message Board Geniuses” Twitter where the account finds absurd fans or statements from fans and puts them on blast.

Well, Oklahoma fans probably wish they didn’t find their message board posts because some recruits actually took note of what was said.

David Stone, Xadavien Sims disappointed in Oklahoma football fans

Sims originally found the Message Board Geniuses tweet that included such statements as “any kid who picks a Pac-12 school isn’t a serious player” or “mid” or “this kid would be a wasted scholarship.”

It feels like any chance of Oklahoma flipping him after these statements vanished.

But Sims isn’t the only target who found the message board material ripping one of the nation’s top defensive line recruits. Five-star defensive lineman David Stone, too, found it.

And he was disappointed.

Stone went on to tweet at Sims to keep his head up and he experienced this same type of hatred with a different fanbase (presumably Michigan in which he said he had racist interactions). Still, this is not a good look for Oklahoma.

Obviously, every single fanbase has outliers and message boards usually bring out the worst. These people speak for probably less than five percent of Oklahoma fans, but recruits see this stuff. This doesn’t do the program any favors.

Do you think a top recruit would want to play for fans who say vile things about their friends? Probably not.

Oklahoma is currently the presumed leader for Stone, but Oregon and Michigan State are in hot pursuit.
