Washington football fans have plenty of reasons to be excited for the 2023 season and with that in mind, here are the three hardest games for the Huskies.

As we get closer to the 2023 Washington football season, it’s perfectly reasonable for Huskies fans to be excited.

Michael Penix is one of the best quarterbacks in the country and is coming back for the 2023 season. He also has his top five or six pass-catchers coming back. It’s probably not talked about enough.

Washington football also has a number of key contributors back on defense too. That’s why the expectations are so high. A Pac-12 title feels possible or at the very least, a shot at making the Pac-12 title game.

The Huskies have a road game against Michigan State that won’t be easy. East-coast road trips never are. But that didn’t crack our top three in terms of the Huskies’ most difficult games in the 2023 season.

3. Utah (at home, Nov. 11)

The schedule for Washington football is difficult. The Huskies have to face the other top three contenders in the Pac-12 in Oregon, USC, and Utah. However, two of the three games are at home starting with the Utes on Nov. 11.

We should have a good idea of where both teams stand at this point in the season and this could be a massive game. Cam Rising and Utah have won back-to-back Pac-12 championships. Kyle Whittingham is one of the best defensive minds in college football and Utah is always tough.

Getting this game at home is a big plus. The Utes are much tougher at home.

2. Oregon (at home, Oct. 14)

Washington football beat the Ducks in Eugene last season, so there shouldn’t be any intimidation factor. Both teams could be undefeated in this matchup and with the way the schedule sets up, if the Huskies just don’t lose a home game, they should make the Pac-12 title game.

Oregon is going to be tough. Dan Lanning is an elite defensive mind. The Ducks also have elite talent and one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football last season in Bo Nix.

Yet, all of those things were true last year and Penix put on a show, throwing for 400 yards and two touchdowns.

1. USC (on the road, Nov. 4)

There are two challenging road games in November. The trip to USC on November fourth is one that you can’t really expect Washington football to win.

The Trojans are going to be lights out. I also think they’ll be better defensively and in the trenches after some transfer portal additions to fortify both lines this spring.

Traveling to Oregon State will be difficult too. The Beavers are overlooked by plenty of people, despite winning 10 games and landing a former five-star QB in the transfer portal.

Still, the other opponents are tougher and these three games will determine Washington’s success in the 2023 season.
