3 hardest games on Georgia Football’s 2023 schedule

Looking ahead to the 2023 Georgia football schedule, here are the three hardest games for the Bulldogs. 

The Georgia football team will be aiming for a three-peat in the 2023 season and one thing that should help the Bulldogs is a fairly weak schedule.

You might argue that no schedule in the SEC is weak and that’s probably a valid point. Georgia football will have games against Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and a team from the SEC West if it reaches the SEC title game.

However, the non-conference schedule features only Georgia Tech, UAB, Ball State, and UT-Martin. Not exactly a murderer’s row.

Yet, the Bulldogs aren’t the only team that’s avoiding a stiff non-conference schedule and at least there’s one power-5 opponent. Usually, Georgia plays two like it did a year ago.

Regardless, the schedule is what it is. If the Bulldogs win all their games they will make it to the College Football Playoff once again.

Even if Georgia loses once during the regular season, but wins the SEC, the Bulldogs will make their way back to the playoff.

So let’s look at the best chances for an opponent to knock off the defending national champions in 2023 with the three hardest games for Georiga football this season.

3. South Carolina at Georgia (Sept. 16)

This game against South Carolina would be higher on the list if it was going to be played in Columbia. The Gamecocks have Spencer Rattler once again and they did knock off Tennessee and Clemson (at home) last season.

This is one of the games that Georgia fans probably have circled on the schedule. It’s also early in the season and could be the first test for the new starting quarterback.

My guess is that it will be Carson Beck. At least if he plays like he did during the spring. South Carolina is going to be a double-digit underdog for sure, but I’d give them a better shot to win in Athens than Kentucky.

2. Georgia vs Florida (Oct. 28, neutral site)

The World’s Greatest Outdoor Cocktail Party is also known as Georgia vs Florida. It’s one of my favorite rivalries and it’s another game I’d worry about as a Georgia fan.

Florida isn’t as talented as Georgia. Graham Mertz really needs to play better than he ever did at Wisconsin if the Gators are going to be any good.

But outside of quarterback, Billy Napier’s team is better than people realize. The Gators just have a tough schedule. They’ll be hungry for a defining win and Georgia might be overlooking them.

It would be an upset, but this neutral field game seems like a bigger threat than Kentucky again.

1. Georgia at Tennessee (Nov. 18)

Tennessee looks legitimately back under head coach Josh Heupel and if Joe Milton can play like a first-round pick this season, the Vols could be tough to deal with.

Hendon Hooker was outstanding last season. But Milton probably has even more arm talent. The problem is that he needs to show he can be consistent, accurate, and take care of the ball.

Tennessee was able to beat Alabama at home last season, so beating Georgia football isn’t totally out of the question. At any rate, playing at Neyland Stadium should be the Bulldogs’ biggest test.

At least in the regular season.
