Mike Norvell was squarely on the “warm seat” through two seasons with Florida State football. The Seminoles were just 8-13 in his first two seasons and it felt like the program was heading in the wrong direction.

And then something changed in 2022.

Florida State went 10-3 and won the Cheez-It Bowl. The program also started to recruit better under Norvell, and that includes the transfer portal.

Heading into the 2023 season, Norvell has a team that’s likely to compete for a playoff spot as well as one of the best transfer portal classes in the country.

Just ask 247Sports.

Florida State football has four of the nation’s top 20 transfers

Florida State landed the No. 16 recruiting class in the country for 2023 but the No. 5 transfer class, according to 247Sports.

The recruiting service is even higher on a handful of individual transfers, led by four of the top 20 in the cycle.

According to 247Sports, Florida State has four of the top 20 transfers in the nation.

  • No. 5: Fentrell Cypress, CB (Virginia)
  • No.12: Jaheim Bell, TE (South Carolina)
  • No. 16: Keon Coleman, WR (Michigan State)
  • No. 20: Braden Fiske, DL (Western Michigan)

Clearly, Norvell addressed needs on both sides of the ball. Jordan Travis will have two new elite weapons to throw the ball to and the defensive side of the ball added a star in the trenches and an elite defensive back.

Florida State is getting better each year and if Norvell continues to recruit at a high level, we could see this program getting back to the glory days again.
