Looking ahead to the 2023 college football season, here’s the top 2023 Heisman Trophy contenders from each power-5 league and one from the Group of Five.

Now that spring college football is in the books, as well as the spring transfer portal window (for the most part) we have a pretty good idea of what teams will look like.

In terms of the 2023 Heisman Trophy race, there’s a bevy of contenders, led of course by the reigning Heisman Trophy winner — Caleb Williams.

There have been a bunch of 2023 Heisman Trophy lists circulating around, so it seemed like a good idea to update our thoughts on the race after the spring.

However, I’m going to take a different approach and offer up the No. 1 2023 Heisman Trophy contender from each major college football conference and one from the Power-5.

We’ll start with the ACC.

ACC 2023 Heisman Trophy Contender: Jordan Travis, Florida State

This first selection wasn’t easy as Drake Maye of North Carolina is expected to be a serious Heisman Trophy contender during the 2023 college football season.

I have no doubt that he’ll put up big numbers. But I just think Travis will have a better overall season. If the Seminoles beat LSU in an early-season marquee matchup and he plays well, his Heisman campaign will be off to the races.

Last season, Travis threw for over 3,200 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also ran for over 400 and scored seven rushing touchdowns. Those numbers will need to be better and I think they will.

Plus, if Florida State can live up to its potential, Travis will have a better shot than Maye, who plays for a North Carolina team that will be solid, but not spectacular.
