Many believe that Cormani McClain will have the biggest early impact of all the freshmen this season and I would agree with that, for the most part, but I think there may be one player who could rise to the top of the depth chart at his position and have an even larger role.

Still, McClain has a good chance to be a starting cornerback along with fellow newcomer Travis Hunter. McClain was the only five-star signee in Colorado’s 2023 class and Deion Sanders was able to steal him away from Miami which is huge because he’s from the Hurricanes’ backyard. That was a massive recruiting win.

McClain has all the tools to be a star early on and as long as he and Hunter can stay healthy, the Buffaloes are going to have one of the best cornerback duos in the Pac-12, if not the country.

Depth in the defensive backfield is a bit of an issue, but McClain is going to be good enough right away to make sure that he plays starter snaps.

I have high hopes for the Lakeland, Fla., product.
