The Georgia football and Michigan football programs continue to add to their top-ranked recruiting classes as each had another big official visit weekend.

Heading into the 2023 college football season, Georgia football and Michigan football might be the top two contenders for the national title.

At least on paper. We don’t know if Michigan football is going to figure out how to win a bowl game (playoff game) since the Wolverines are 0-2 in the playoff in addition to having dropped six consecutive bowl games under Jim Harbaugh.

We also know that Georgia football is loaded. The quarterback position might be a question mark, but I’m confident the Bulldogs will find someone who can throw the ball to Brock Bowers and all the other elite skill guys on the roster.

As if Michigan and Georgia getting set to dominant again wasn’t enough, both programs are putting together stellar recruiting classes and added to them this weekend.

The Bulldogs actually pulled off a flip this weekend. UGA had been targeting Chauncey Bowers a Top 247 running back via 247 sports who is ranked 12th at the position in the 2024 class. He had been committed to Florida since September.

But after an official visit to Athens, Georgia football finished off the flip. The fact that it was a Florida commitment had to make the Dawgs fan smile even wider. UGA has the No. 1 overall class and no other team is really close. Not even Michigan.

Soon enough, you can add a recruiting title to the past two national titles on the field.

Michigan football adds more commitments

The Wolverines are putting together a really stellar class, the kind you’d expect after winning back-to-back Big Ten titles. Michigan football was outside the top 15 in 2023, so it’s been a turnaround and it continued with two more commitments the past two days.

Owen Wafle, a long-time Notre Dame commitment, completed his flip to Michigan this past weekend. He re-opened his recruitment a few weeks ago and this was why.

The Wolverines also picked up a commitment from Jaden Smith on Monday. That’s the 19th in the class and Michigan football also impressed five-stars Ryan Wingo (WR) and Justin Scott (D-line) on official visits over the weekend.

It’s an impressive haul so far and while I don’t see Michigan football catching Georgia, it’s hard to see the Wolverines not finishing in the top five in the 2024 recruiting rankings, which would be a major victory for head coach Jim Harbaugh.
