3 takeaways as Alabama commitment Julian Sayin wins Elite 11
The Elite 11 is one of the top competitions in college football recruiting and here are three takeaways from the 2023 Elite 11.
There are few events bigger in the world of college football recruiting than the Elite 11 quarterback competition.
At this point, most of the quarterbacks are committed. So I guess it’s not as much about recruiting as it is about evaluations and bragging rights among college football fanbases.
Over the course of three days, Alabama commit Julian Sayin proved to be the most consistent and was named the top performer by 247 Sports, as well as On3.
With the Elite 11 now in the rearview mirror and Sayin as a pretty solid consensus winner, here are three takeaways from the 2023 competition.
Sayin deserves a ranking bump
The Alabama commitment is already ranked 13th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings but after his showing in the Elite 11, out-dueling Dylan Raiola, it seems like Sayin deserves an upgrade.
In the 247 specific rankings, Sayin isn’t even ranked as a five-star prospect. He’s ranked 34th overall right now and that’s going to change at some point.
Eventually, Sayin should find himself ranked among the top 10 prospects in the 247 class. I wouldn’t rank him above Dylan Raiola at this point. Raiola was solid in his own right and probably has a higher upside.
However, Sayin deserves more respect and his performance should have Alabama football fans really excited about the future of the quarterback position.
No reason to worry about Jadyn Davis
Jadyn Davis, who is ranked 34th overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2024 class didn’t even crack the top 11 in the standings according to On3.com.
However, that shouldn’t come as a shock. On3 is the only recruiting service that ranks Davis outside the top 100 right now.
There were some up-and-down moments for Davis, but he really stood out in the 7-on-7 period throwing four touchdowns on Friday.
The Michigan commitment has been downgraded from a five-star to a four-star in the composite rankings, but I wouldn’t worry. The Elite 11 competition is quarterbacks throwing in shorts.
It’s not real football and Davis seems to play better in game situations. It does seem like his throwing motion could become more compact, but Michigan has a really talented QB coming.
Trever Jackson interest is picking up
There are fewer and fewer uncommitted quarterbacks in the 2024 college football recruiting class and one of them at the Elite 11 was Trever Jackson.
The quarterback from Winter Garden, Florida is ranked 416th overall according to the On3 Industry rankings. He’s also the No. 26 quarterback in the 2024 class.
Jackson showed off his arm talent at the Elite 11 and it has already led to an increased interest from Miami. Pittsburgh recently hosted him for an official visit. Missouri was supposed to later in June, but the Tigers just landed a QB commitment.
The Hurricanes do have a quarterback in the 2024 class right now, but Jackson is ranked higher and if the Hurricanes push to get him on campus for an official visit, they could be a serious threat to Pitt, which leads via the On3 prediction machine.
That will be something to watch in the coming weeks and possibly months, but Jackson certainly helped himself on the recruiting trail with his Elite 11 performance.
