Arizona State football has whiffed on 2024 quarterbacks so far but landed a key commitment on Tuesday from four-star Michael Tollefson.

When Arizona State football hired Kenny Dillingham to be its head football coach, it was expected that he was going to improve recruiting for the Sun Devils.

Dillingham recruited well at Florida State after all and when he was the offensive coordinator for Oregon, he was primarily responsible for landing Dante Moore, before Moore eventually flipped his commitment to UCLA.

Quarterback recruiting is vital in college football and Arizona State football leveled up with Dillingham, who on Tuesday, landed his second four-star commitment as Sun Devils head coach.

Arizona State football lands another blue-chip quarterback

The first big get came in the 2023 recruiting class when Dillingham was able to sign Jaden Rashada. Rashada was once committed to Miami and signed with Florida before being let out of his letter of intent.

In a head-to-head battle with TCU, Dillingham got his guy. Rashada is competing for the starting job this season and looking into the future, the commitment of Michael Tollefson was huge for the Sun Devils.

Tollefson is a 2025 quarterback. Arizona State football was running out of options in the 2024 class and like Clemson and some others, shifted its focus to 2025.

That focus paid off in a big way as the No. 14 overall quarterback in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings — Tollefson — committed to Arizona State this week despite having a total of 21 offers. Dillingham was the only coached he tagged in his commitment announcement which tells you the role he played.

A bunch of big-name programs were also in the mix such as Georgia, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Utah, Oregon, Miami, Ole Miss, Florida State, Michigan State, Washington, and others.

Tollefson is from California and is ranked 222nd overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, and all of a sudden, Arizona State football is looking stocked at the quarterback position well into the future.

All thanks to Kenny Dillingham, who is looking like a very smart hire, even though the Sun Devils haven’t even played a game yet.
