Is it officially time to be worried about the NCAA Football video game?
Just when we thought we were in the clear for the new EA Sports NCAA Football video game, we were hit with another setback.
Fans, like myself, have been anxiously awaiting the new version of the classic video game that we played for hundreds of hours during our childhoods. We just wanted to be able to play the game that made us fall in love with video games.
We just wanted to sit down for an hour — or six — and build a dynasty and recruit against the likes of Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State for the top prospects in the country while leading San Jose State. Oh, that last part may just be me talking about my own personal plans. But still, there’s nothing more I want to do on a weeknight after work than play countless hours of NCAA Football.
But that may all be put on hold thanks to a lawsuit from the Brandr Group which works to get fair NIL deals for athletes.
And now, all the hope we had for the game is temporarily lost.
Should we be worried about NCAA Football?
With the lawsuit coming out at an inopportune time with EA Sports trying to develop the game, they now have to either come to an agreement with the Brandr Group or suspend the progress of the game. It was already supposed to be released this summer, but now it’s on hold for another year.
Does this lawsuit push that back even more? It kind of feels that way, especially after the controversy came out about the $500 each player would be getting for being in the game.
Many players were against the boycotting of the game for the small NIL money coming from it, but that’s still a controversial topic. The $500 will need to be increased more than likely if the game is going to come out without anymore hitches.
Am I worried about the game’s release? Kind of. Do I think it’ll get figured out with an increased NIL deal? Probably. Do I think it might be delayed even further? Yes.
We just want the game, EA Sports.
