Is Oklahoma Football leading for No. 1 RB Taylor Tatum?
USC football seemed like the favorite for No. 1 2024 running back Taylor Tatum but a new crystal ball says Oklahoma football is in the top spot.
There’s been a lot going on in the recruitment of Taylor Tatum in recent weeks. But at this point, one thing is clear: It’s an Oklahoma football vs USC battle.
The No. 1 ranked running back in the 2024 college football recruiting class had been working with what was essentially a top three of USC, Oklahoma, and Michigan. That was based on the scheduled official visits.
However, Taylor Tatum only took two official visits. One was to see USC football on the first visit weekend of June. The next was Oklahoma football, which took place that weekend.
Following that visit, Taylor Tatum canceled his official visit to Michigan. That seems to have eliminated the Wolverines. The running back from Longview, Texas is ranked 33rd overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings and is on the cusp of being a five-star recruit.
It’s hard to overstate the kind of impact he could make right away for Oklahoma football or USC for that matter next season. According to a report from Collin Kennedy of 247 Sports, there wasn’t much optimism on the Sooners’ side of things after the official visit though.
However, Taylor Tatum who is also a baseball standout, talked to the baseball staff at OU and that seems to have put Oklahoma football in a better position.
Now, Oklahoma football has landed a crystal ball projection for Tatum. This was from Jordan Scruggs who works for Horns 247. The other crystal ball (for USC) was from Mike Roach who is a national analyst. Roach already flipped his pick from Michigan to USC.
We’ll see if he follows suit and puts in a prediction for Oklahoma football. While the Trojans had momentum, the fact that OU is gaining doesn’t mean USC football is out of it.
It will be interesting to see what happens next. There hasn’t been talk of a commitment date yet that I’ve seen and all we know right now is Tatum won’t visit Michigan this weekend.
Maybe another visit is in the works or maybe he’s heading into the recruiting dead period with an eye on making a decision. Either way, we know the Sooners are gaining momentum and we’ll see if they can turn that momentum into a commitment.
