Texas Tech Football trending for first-ever 5-star commitment
Texas Tech football has never landed a five-star recruit before, but that could change as Micah Hudson is now being projected to the Red Raiders.
When it comes to the Lone Star State, Texas Tech football has never been known as a recruiting power. But under Joey McGuire, the Red Raiders are starting to turn some heads.
And if things go the way they are trending with five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson, other teams will have no choice but to take Texas Tech football seriously.
The Red Raiders hosted Hudson, the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class and second-ranked wide receiver over the weekend.
Hudson who is from Lake Belton, Texas, was supposed to take an official visit to see the Texas Longhorns this weekend. But now, that visit isn’t happening.
Texas Tech football has also received a couple of massive crystal ball projections — one from Steve Wiltfong and another from Mike Roach.
Roach is trusted among Texas recruiting analysts and Wiltfong is the top guy at 247 Sports so those two predictions carry a lot of weight in my book.
There aren’t any 40 times according to his 247 Sports profile but you can bet that he’s plenty fast. He ran the 100-meter dash in 11.5 seconds as a true freshman. He’s 6-foot, 190 pounds, and has the tools to play any position — slot or the outside.
The run-after-the-catch ability really stands out. But he can get deep and also has tremendous ball skills. His 247 Sports scouting profile compares him to Garrett Wilson.
Hudson has been offered by just about everyone but Texas Tech football, Texas, Alabama, and Arkansas are listed as “warm” according to 247 Sports.
The two crystal ball predictions and the fact that Hudson canceled his visit are great signs for the Red Raiders who have never landed a five-star recruit in their history.
Quite literally, Hudson would be the top-ranked commitment Texas Tech football has ever had. It would also be a sign that the Red Raiders are going to be a force in Lone Star State recruiting under Joey McGuire, which they kind of already are after landing 34 commitments from the state in the past two cycles out of 38 total.
