Houston football pulls off massive flip of 4-star LB Maurice Williams Jr. from LSU
Dana Holgorsen just pulled off his biggest recruiting win as head coach of Houston football.
On Friday, the veteran head coach flipped a four-star linebacker and the best recruit since he took over as head coach from LSU.
In fact, Maurice Williams Jr., a native of Pearland, Texas, is on an official visit to Houston this weekend and earlier in the day on Friday, the crystal balls started to roll in for the Cougars to pull off the flip. Well, Holgorsen was able to do just that as the top-150 linebacker decided to flip his commitment from LSU, which he led since last summer, to Houston.
This is arguably the biggest recruiting win since Holgorsen has been head coach and maybe the best of his career seeing as LSU is a recruiting powerhouse.
Flipping an elite prospect from LSU just doesn’t happen at schools like Houston.
But now that the Cougars are headed to the Power Five, they have to play with the big boys.
This could get Houston football recruiting going
Even after the flip, Houston ranks No. 86 in the country with just four commits, two of which aren’t even ranked.
The Cougars are hosting another big official visit slate this weekend and they’re hoping to conjure up some momentum heading into the rest of the summer. This flip of Williams Jr., the No. 110 overall recruit in the class and No. 8 linebacker, should get things stirred up.
Now he can focus on recruiting guys to join him.
