Michigan State football is hoping to land three-star quarterback Henry Hasselbeck and this weekend will go a long way in determining if the Spartans can close.

It hasn’t been the best recruiting cycle so far for Michigan State football but the Spartans could be on the verge of some positive news at the quarterback position.

The Spartans have just five verbal commitments right now. None of them are four-star prospects, but it’s also still early.

When it comes to quarterback recruiting, in the 2024 class, it’s anything but early. Most of the top quarterbacks are already committed and one of the top passers left on the board is Henry Hasselbeck, a three-star ranked 62nd among QBs and 1,033rd overall.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it is. He’s the son of Matt Hasselbeck, the former Boston College standout and starter for the Seattle Seahawks.

Boston College is in the mix for Hasselbeck, who is out of Westwood, Massachusetts. He took an official visit there earlier this month. He also took an official visit to Michigan State football and the Spartans have emerged as the leader since.

Can Michigan State football close?

Steve Wiltfong and five other recruiting experts have placed crystal ball predictions this week for the Spartans ahead of Hasselbeck’s visit to Pittsburgh.

Most likely a commitment announcement will be coming soon after this last official visit. That’s just how things tend to go.

Usually, when you see a run of crystal balls like that, instead of them trickling in over months and weeks, a commitment happens soon after. The key word is usually.

I’m sure Pittsburgh will try to do what it can to land Hasselbeck. But the experts favor Michigan State football and landing the QB with an NFL pedigree would be huge for the Spartans, who need to generate some positive momentum in the 2024 class.
