Nebraska Football is surging in 2024 recruiting class
Matt Rhule and Nebraska football are rolling on the recruiting trail with eight commitments in the past week.
A certain segment of the Nebraska football fanbase has doubted the recruiting of head coach Matt Rhule, especially with a run of lower-ranked recruits in the past two weeks.
Of course, there is a method to Rhule’s madness. Every single commitment he has taken, outside of punter Kamdyn Koch, is ranked as a three-star prospect by the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Many of the recruits got their ranking after committing to Nebraska football, which means that Rhule and the Huskers are getting ahead of the game.
Part of this is due to Rhule being very active on the camp circuit. Nebraska football hosted a bunch of camps and truly evaluated players. They now have multiple commitments from their camps such as Donovan Jones, Jake Peters, Landen Davidson, and others who could be on the way.
The Huskers are still finding guys with NFL measurables — they are just working a little harder to find them. Nebraska football is counting on its ability to develop players but on Friday, Rhule also showed once again he can win big recruitments.
Two huge in-state commitments for Nebraska football
Nebraska football missed on Dylan Raiola earlier this cycle. But the Huskers recovered quickly by landing Daniel Kaelin and on Friday, they got commitments from Dae’vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris — two wide receivers ranked 2nd and 3rd in the state via the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Carter Nelson, who is the top-ranked recruit in the state, and one of the best tight ends in the 2024 class, is taking an official visit. Georgia has the crystal ball lead but we’ll see if that holds throughout the weekend.
After all, Nelson was pictured at a College World Series game with Daniel Kaelin earlier this week, which could be a good sign for Nebraska football.
Either way, the 2024 class has surged to No. 17 overall in the 247 team rankings. Nebraska has 17 commitments and although just three are blue-chip prospects right now, Kaelin and Morris both have the look of a four-star to me.
Plus, Nebraska seems to have a real shot with Nelson and Grant Brix, a four-star offensive tackle who is the No. 1 player in Iowa. He’s also visiting this weekend.
It’s been a whirlwind for Nebraska football fans lately, but they should feel good about the direction of recruiting under Matt Rhule because the arrow is definitely pointing up.
