Matt Rhule has only been with Nebraska football for about seven months but he’s had a massive impact in the potential turnaround of the Cornhuskers.

He has been recruiting at a high level since taking over and he currently holds 17 commitments in the 2024 class which is ranked No. 19 in the country. And Rhule may very well be adding his biggest fish yet to the class.

As of Monday, June 26, Rhule has no commitments that are ranked in the top 300 according to the composite. He does have three four-stars but they’re ranked Nos. 322, 323, and 374.

That’s going to change this week, it looks like.

Carter Nelson, a top-50 tight end from Ainsworth, Neb., was just on an official visit to Lincoln and it looks like he’s just days away from becoming a Cornhusker.

Crystal balls trending in Nebraska football’s favor

Just a day after beginning his official visit, Nelson began to receive a flurry of crystal ball predictions on 247Sports to land with Nebraska.

Fast forward to June 26 and he holds eight crystal balls, all projecting him to pick Nebraska.

Making everything more interesting, he has a commitment date set for June 28 which means that Nebraska had the final visit, is trending heavily for him, and he’s confident enough after seeing Georgia, Notre Dame, and Penn State as well to make a decision.

The experts believe it will 100 percent be Nebraska.

This would easily be the biggest recruiting win for Rhule to date and it would give him a massive weapon in that offense for 2024 and beyond.

Nelson is ranked the No. 40 overall recruit and No. 2 tight end in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. Beating out Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Alabama for him is a good sign that Rhule is getting the program back on track.
