Texas Football will enter its first season with major expectations under head coach Steve Sarkisian. Will they rise to the occasion?

Texas football is ready to make a splash in 2023. Last season was a bit of a disappointment for Longhorns fans as they finished the season with an 8-5 record.

This is partially due to the fact that stud quarterback Quinn Ewers was injured for a portion of the season, an injury that he suffered during the Longhorns’ matchup with Alabama, a game that Texas had a firm hold on prior to the injury to Ewers. Texas football would go on to lose that game, and that was seemingly a pivotal event for the remainder of the season.

There is definitely a recipe for a few different things that must play out in a team’s favor if they are to make a championship run. The team must have elite talent, be able to stay healthy and win at least the vast majority of their big games.

At the beginning of 2022, Texas football fans had begun to believe that their team was trending towards elite talent once again, and for good reason. One particularly impressive showing was the 49-0 route of arch-rival Oklahoma. However, Texas failed to win most of its toughest tests throughout the year and battled injury.

Heading into 2023, there are several reasons for Texas fans to be optimistic. Quinn Ewers is healthy, and there is no reason to believe that he won’t be the quarterback that we saw early in the year last season.

The Longhorns have also secured some elite talent on defense such as Arkansas transfer Jalen Catalon (DB), Wake Forest transfer Gavin Holmes (DB), and true freshman Anthony Hill (LB). Hill is one of the most exciting additions to Texas’ 2023 class coming in, a class that ranked among the top in the nation. The talent continues to pour in, and the time is now for Sarkisian and company to make it happen. Here are the best, worst, and most-likely scenarios for the Longhorns in 2023.

Best Case Scenario

The schedule is by no means easy in 2023 for Texas, but fans should be encouraged by the idea that Texas should be the favorite to win all but one or two games.

The matchup in Tuscaloosa with the Crimson Tide will be extremely tough. Alabama no doubt has some question marks on their roster and Texas could very well come out on top, but Bama has been able to reload at key positions year after year and I have no reason to believe this year will be different.

The other games that look as though they will be a challenge for the Longhorns include matchups with Oklahoma, Baylor, Kansas State, and TCU. Given this schedule and the roster Texas is bringing into 2023, I see the best-case scenario as a 12-1 season with the loss to Alabama, along with a conference championship and a playoff berth. Although this may not be the most likely scenario, it is not out of the realm of possibilities, and that should excite you if you are a Texas fan.
