Most-Likely Scenario

The most likely scenario is somewhere in the middle of the scenarios described earlier.

I don’t believe the Longhorns are quite to the point of National Championship contention, but I don’t believe they are an eight-win team either. I see the 2023 season as the final step into the small group of elite programs for Texas. They should be ready for serious title contention in 2024 with the strides made in recruiting and the impressive flashes shown these past two seasons.

I will say that I believe the most likely scenario to be closer to best-case than worst-case. I believe the Longhorns will go 10-2, with one of those losses being to the Crimson Tide. I simply cannot give them that game on the road.

However, the one loss in the Big 12 should be good enough for a conference title appearance, which I believe they would win.

With an 11-2 record they will likely fall just outside the College Football Playoff window, but land them in a New Year’s Six game that can give them some nice momentum going into 2024, where I believe they will be ready to contend.
