Alabama Football has top 2024 class according to one metric

Alabama football doesn’t have the top-ranked overall recruiting class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, but it’s No. 1 in one way. 

If you look at the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2024 college football recruiting class, you’ll see that Georgia has a commanding lead right now for the top spot. 

Ohio State just passed Michigan for the No. 2 spot on the list. However, to find Alabama football, you have to look a little further as the Crimson Tide are ranked No. 32 right now.

That’s kind of wild when you think about it, especially since Alabama football rolled to the top spot in the 2023 college football recruiting class.

But as Lee Corso says, “Not so fast my friend!”

Yes, Alabama football trails a bunch of other programs in the college football recruiting rankings for 2023, but that’s based on sheer numbers. The Crimson Tide only has eight commitments right now. 

However, three of those eight commitments are of the five-star variety and seven of them are blue-chips (4-stars or better). Plus, On3 released a ranking of teams according to the average ranking of recruits committed.

Alabama still recruiting at an elite level

And on that list, Alabama football takes the top spot right now. The Crimson Tide have a solid lead right now in that category, which is something to brag about.

It also comes down to numbers. The more commitments Alabama gets, the lower that number is likely going to drop. Still, averaging a 93 with the first eight commitments is pretty impressive.

Georgia has three five-star recruits in its class, but it also has a total of 21 commitments. Ohio State has 17 and Michigan has 23.

That means that once Alabama football starts landing more commitments, which will happen eventually, they will skyrocket in the rankings.

It’s early to tell, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Alabama football among the top five teams in the final 2024 team rankings when it’s all said and done.

Just don’t let the rankings fool you. Alabama’s class is going to be elite once again and in terms of average rating per commitment, it’s No. 1 right now in all of college football recruiting.
