Nebraska football projected for another top-100 recruit in 2024
Matt Rhule and Nebraska football keep rolling on the recruiting trail adding another Texas commitment on Thursday, plus another huge expert projection.
Nebraska football remains a storyline on the recruiting trail as Matt Rhule and the Huskers continued to build an impressive 2024 recruiting class.
The addition of Carter Nelson earlier this week was the most significant commitment up to this point. He’s the top-ranked recruit in the state and a top-100 prospect. Plus, Notre Dame and Georgia wanted him badly.
Keeping Nelson in the state was huge for Rhule. But the Huskers need to get beyond recruiting wins in the state of Nebraska.
Rhule is off to an incredible start in the state of Texas. He landed another verbal commitment on Thursday from three-star defensive lineman Carlon Jones.
Jones is ranked No. 673 overall. He’s 6-foot-2, 270 pounds out of Bay City, Texas, and finished with over 100 tackles, 13 sacks, and 29 tackles for loss. Maybe he’s underrated because of his height, but Jones is a stellar pass rusher and the seventh commitment from the Lone Star State.
Nebraska football recruiting in Texas had really fallen off after leaving the Big 12 for the Big Ten. Rhule has revitalized it — overnight. Nebraska has 50 commitments since he’s becoming the head coach and 13 are from Texas.
More than half are from Texas and Nebraska. That’s not a bad way to build a team. However, the big wins need to come in the Midwest and if the On3 recruiting prediction machine is correct, another is coming top-100 offensive lineman Grant Brix.
Matt Rhule, Nebraska football is on the verge again
The Huskers have a better than 70 percent chance to land Brix who is the top player in the state of Iowa. Brix is 6-foot-5, 280 pounds, and ranked as the No. 5 tackle overall in the 2024 class via the 247 Sports composite rankings.
A Kansas State insider has a crystal ball projection in for Brix, but that was put in on June 23rd and none have followed. Kansas State is also expected to land Kaeden Massey, another offensive tackle.
We’ll see if all these things are connected. But if the Huskers can land Brix, an elite offensive tackle, in addition to Nelson, it would make this one of the better recruiting classes in recent memory for Nebraska football, which is already 13th in the 2024 team rankings.
People have called Nebraska football a sleeping giant and Rhule is making it look like that could actually be true. It’s been a long time since the Huskers have signed a top-15 recruiting class and this could be their best since finishing 16th back in 2011.
