New Mexico State football makes its Conference USA debut in 2023.

Is it possible for the Aggies to be a contender in its first year in Conference USA? Anything is possible after the job head coach Jerry Kill did in 2022. New Mexico State does not have a storied football history, and another winning season would be the first since 1959-60.

That said, the Aggies have an opportunity to contend for and possibly win Conference USA in its debut season. Kill knows how to coach and run a program; he proved that while at Minnesota. Had it not been for health issues, he’d still be there or coaching a bigger Power Five program.

It’s hard not to root for coaches like Jerry Kill, either. He can coach and has been successful everywhere he’s been. He won at Northern Illinois, Minnesota, and as interim at TCU. His success at New Mexico State football should come as little surprise to anyone who follows college football.

The Aggies are a good football team and, considering the landscape of CUSA, could come in and instantly be one of the better teams in the league. How will New Mexico State fare in its first season in Conference USA?

Here is a look at the offense, defense, and the 2023 schedule.
