Another huge crystal ball for Nebraska Football
The positive vibes keep coming for Nebraska football recruiting as the Huskers were projected to land the top in-state 2025 recruit on Tuesday.
Matt Rhule hasn’t coached a game yet for Nebraska football, but he’s already starting to win over Husker fans with his recruiting.
One area where Rhule has been highly successful is in-state recruiting. Nebraska isn’t a hotbed like Texas or Florida, but the state has produced top-100 players in consecutive classes and has another close to that range as the No. 1 player in 2025.
Rhule has landed the top-ranked player in the 2023 class and 2024. In 2023, he signed Malachi Coleman and this summer, landed the commitment of Carter Nelson who is ranked 82nd overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Jones, out of Omaha Westside, is ranked 125th overall in the 2025 composite rankings from 247 Sports. However, in 247 Sports’ own rankings for the 2025 class, the linebacker who is 6-foot-3, 210 pounds ranks even higher (60th overall).
Nebraska football poised for another recruiting win
Nebraska football, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma are all listed as “warm” right now according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Yet, Steve Wiltfong, the top recruiting expert for 247 Sports put in a crystal ball for the Huskers on Tuesday night.
The confidence level is 6 out of 10. Wiltfong talked about his prediction here and Jones said one reason he was drawn to the Huskers is their in-state recruiting. As of right now, Nebraska football also has the No. 2 and No. 3 (in-state) players in the 2025 class committed.
Tyson Terry and Caden VerMaas are each top-three recruits in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Terry is going to be a force on the defensive line and adding Jones would be another huge recruiting win for Nebraska football and Rhule.
One thing Wilftong didn’t report is when Jones is expected to announce his commitment. The Huskers could have momentum but that doesn’t mean a commitment is imminent, especially with a 2025 recruit.
However, Terry got a crystal ball in a similar way and committed soon after. I don’t expect that to happen with Jones, but you never know. Anything can happen in recruiting.
