Ed Oregon is a college football treasure.

The Louisiana native seemed to be in the perfect spot when he coached LSU, leading his home-state program to a national title in 2019. After years of bouncing around, it looked like he came home just to be a local legend. But then he went just 11-11 in the two years following that national title season and stepped down as head coach.

Brian Kelly took over for Coach O in Baton Rouge last season and the feeling was that the 61-year-old head coach was going to ride off into the sunset and retire.

But that may not be the case.

It seems like Orgeron may have that itch to coach yet again and a recent job opening at Northwestern has piqued his interest. This is what America deserves.

Northwestern hasn’t reached out to Orgeron yet, but this report may stir up some conversations within the Wildcat athletic department.

Orgeron did deal with an off-field incident involving assistant coach Derrius Guice, but maybe Northwestern gives him a shot with an interview and basically tells him that strike one is strike three. The leash would be short.

The fit would be, well, interesting, but I think it’d be fun.

Ed Orgeron would return Northwestern to relevance

The past couple of seasons have been a nightmare for Northwestern. Ed Orgeron has proven that he can win big games and bring excitement to programs.

This would be the perfect coach to help the Wildcats avoid a complete collapse.

Players love playing for Coach O and he’s going to bring a solid staff with him. He’s also developed some elite relationships in coaching and on the recruiting trail over the years.

The only question mark would be his ability to recruit with heightened academic standards.

College football fans deserve this move to happen. Northwestern fans deserve this after the past couple of nightmarish seasons under Pat Fitzgerald followed by a disgraceful exit. Make this happen, Northwestern.
