The 2022 season was a forgettable one for Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M football. The Aggies had just landed the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation and yet they stumbled to a 5-7 record.

Now, expectations are higher for Fisher and he’s facing a must-win season. If he misses a bowl game again or hovers around the .500 mark, he may be on the hot seat by the time the year is done. Fans are growing restless, but there’s enough talent on the roster to ensure a turnaround takes place.

Here’s who might break out this year to contribute to the turnaround.

At one point in time, Rueben Owens looked like he was going to be an out-of-place superstar at Louisville. He committed to Scott Satterfield and the Cardinals before eventually flipping to Texas A&M. He held offers from just about every major program and was ranked the No. 28 recruit in the 2023 class before committing to the Aggies.

And he does so at the perfect time.

The early enrollee has had time to adjust to college and learn the playbook in the spring and he has an opportunity to replace Devon Achance in the backfield.

There’s no clear starting running back heading into the season, although many believe it will be sophomore Le’Veon Moss. If it is Moss, I still expect Owens to have a large complementary role and if the freshman wins the job, he could have a 1,000-yard season right away.

Owens is supremely talented.
