Looking ahead to the 2023 college football season, here’s a look at five teams that will have bounce-back seasons.

The 2023 college football season is fast approaching. As of this writing, Week 0 is just 41 days away.

There are tons of storylines to follow heading into the 2023 college football season. Earlier this week, we broke down eight college football teams that can win the national championship this season.

While you won’t find any of those teams in this list, there are a bunch of college football programs hoping to turn things around after a disastrous 2022 season. Texas A&M certainly qualifies after a losing record, as does Miami, which wasn’t good at all in Mario Cristobal’s first season.

Some first-year head coaches will make big impacts in the 2023 college football season, which is why we begin our list of five programs ready for bounce-back seasons with Nebraska football.

Nebraska football

For Nebraska football, a bounce-back season would mean getting back to a bowl game for the first time in five seasons, which is the longest drought among Power-5 programs.

It’s incredible that Nebraska football has had losing seasons in six of the past seven years. Matt Rhule was hired to stem the negative tide and finally get the Huskers back to their winning ways.

Nebraska football will never win three national titles in four years and is a long way from competing for a conference title. But the cupboard wasn’t bare when Rhule arrived in Lincoln.

Nebraska returns eight starters on defense and added some key players via the transfer portal. Jeff Sims was a big addition at quarterback, as was Ben Scott at center who could help shore up a porous offensive line.

The Huskers had more than enough talent to go bowling in each of the past three seasons, but they haven’t been able to win close games and shot themselves in the foot constantly under Scott Frost.

That won’t happen under Matt Rhule and my prediction is that Nebraska football posts a winning season in his first campaign.
