3. Penn State Nittany Lions

Another team I actually like but am not as high on as others is Penn State. The reason for that? You can never really trust that James Franklin is going to live up to expectations, especially when they’re this high.

Penn State is projected to be a top-10 team in the country to start the season, and I just think that’s awfully high for a team starting a brand-new quarterback.

Yes, the Nittany Lions are coming off a Rose Bowl season and, yes, Drew Allar has a higher ceiling than Sean Clifford, but we have to understand he’s going to be playing in hostile environments as QB1 for the first time in his collegiate career. That’s a tough task for anyone, let alone a quarterback that has to go to Illinois, Ohio State, Maryland, and Michigan State (well, technically Ford Field in Detroit). Oh, and he has to play two-time defending champ Michigan, too.

The Nittany Lions have one of the nation’s top backfields to help him out, but I worry that some of these road environments will get the best of the first-year starter.

If Allar lives up to the hype right away, however, the sky is the limit for Penn State.
