These 5 college football contenders are the most likely to disappoint in 2023
2. Texas Longhorns
Like Notre Dame, Texas really couldn’t avoid this list based on history and the fact that the Longhorns are unbelievably hyped heading into the season.
Will the Longhorns be a top-10 team to start the season? It’s sounding like that, especially with how the Big 12 media voted in their preseason poll. The Longhorns were the overwhelming favorites to win the Big 12 this season and usually when that happens, the opposite happens. Texas hasn’t fared well with high expectations since Vince Young.
Another reason that leads me to believe the Longhorns may fall short of expectations is Steve Sarkisian. I just don’t think he’s an elite head coach and he makes his share of mistakes. That’s going to cost the Longhorns some wins this year.
Texas travels to Alabama, Baylor, Houston, TCU, and Iowa State and I see at least two road losses there while they also play Oklahoma at Cotton Bowl Stadium, an improved Kansas team, national runner-up TCU, and an intriguing Texas Tech team. If you don’t see at least three losses on this schedule, you may be drinking too much burnt orange Kool-Aid.
