SEC Media Days were pretty boring on Monday but Texas A&M football coach Jimbo Fisher made things interesting in a way.

Texas A&M football head coach Jimbo Fisher talked about being on the hot seat Monday on the first day of SEC Media Days more than he did about the play-calling duties.

You can understand why college football coaches don’t want to give up too much information. That’s probably especially true with Bobby Petrino coming on as the OC. Fisher has been running an offense — one that hasn’t really been that effective — while the Aggies continue to underachieve based on their talent.

You can blame a number of different factors. But Texas A&M football stunk on offense last season. The Aggies ranked 25th overall in scoring defense compared to an offense that ranked 101st.

This is despite the Aggies having some of the most talented recruits in the SEC. Georgia and Alabama might be a tad higher in terms of recruiting rankings, but Texas A&M is right there.

The offense isn’t without weapons. Conner Weigman was once a five-star quarterback as was wideout Evan Stewart. There are other highly-ranked recruits all over the offensive side of the ball.

That’s probably why the hot heat is so real for Jimbo Fisher. Texas A&M football fans won’t tolerate another losing season and I would expect Jimbo to be gone with another disappointing campaign, which is why he needs his team to bounce back.

Is Bobby Petrino the answer for Texas A&M?

However, Fisher could be betting a lot on the addition of Bobby Petrino. Petrino has been a head coach at multiple places and had success wherever he’s gone. He’s also been a troublemaker.

Fisher also refused to say who would be calling the plays this season for Texas A&M football, just adding to the intrigue. Here’s what he said via On3.com:

"“Bobby was hired for a reason. Tremendous guy. Tremendous football mind. Hopefully he’ll call the game and have suggestions.”"

Jimbo was maybe joking but he also didn’t name Petrino the sole play-caller and what will be interesting to see is how the Aggies respond to adversity.

It will also be interesting to see if Fisher is actually willing to give up control. His own future with Texas A&M football might depend on it.
