College football recruiting news: A 5-star flip for Auburn and more
Auburn football made waves in the 2024 college football recruiting class, flipping a five-star recruit from Georgia, plus a 5-star crystal ball.
Earlier this week, we talked about how dominant Georgia football has been on the college football recruiting trail.
However, nothing is set in stone and each recruitment is different. Auburn was able to take advantage of Georgia landing another five-star linebacker and was able to flip Demarcus Riddick, who is ranked 26th overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings in the 2024 college football recruiting class.
For Auburn football and head coach Hugh Freeze, it’s hard to overstate what a win this is. Freeze has landed some solid recruits but this is the biggest win in the 2024 college football recruiting class for the Tigers and the first five-star commitment of the Freeze era.
It’s the first top-100 commitment of the 2024 college football recruiting class for Auburn football and the kind of player that the Tigers will need on their roster to compete for SEC championships down the road with Georiga and Alabama.
Texas A&M football keeps trending for five-star
Not long ago, Texas A&M football fans were frustrated with the Aggies 2024 college football recruiting class, but it’s started to take off.
The Aggies are currently ranked 11th in the 2024 class according to the 247 Sports team rankings, but if the crystal ball projections prove to be true for five-star Terry Bussey, they will likely crack the top 10 soon.
Bussey is 5-foot-10, 180 pounds and is one of the best athletes in the entire 2024 class. He ranks second among all athletes and fifth in the state of Texas. He’s fast and runs the 100 and 200-meter sprints (10.66 in the 100), as well as excelling in the jump events.
Bussey was projected to Texas A&M football a couple of weeks ago by Steve Wiltfong. More have followed including Mike Roach a Texas recruiting insider and Collin Kennedy, an insider for Oklahoma for 247 Sports.
Landing elite players from Texas is always a priority and getting Bussey, whether he ends up as a defensive back or a wide receiver, would be huge for A&M.
LSU lands blue-chip cornerback
In other college football recruiting news, LSU football added the No. 107 overall prospect and the 11th-ranked cornerback to its 2024 haul as Cai Bates committed on Wednesday.
Bates is 6-foot-1, 180 pounds out of Orlando and is ranked as the 15th-best prospect in the state of Florida. Bates is one of the top commitments for the Tigers who are ranked 12th right now in the 2024 team rankings with 20 commitments.
LSU doesn’t have any five-star commitments at this point.
