Auburn Football is the hottest team in college football recruiting
The Auburn football program is on fire in the 2024 college football recruiting class, flipping two five-star commitments just this week.
If Auburn football fans were excited about the hiring of Hugh Freeze as the head coach before, they should be even more excited after two massive college football recruiting wins this week.
Freeze, the former Ole Miss head coach that was hired by Auburn football after coaching at Liberty, looks right at home in the SEC and showed this week that the Tigers can still recruit with the big boys.
On Wednesday, the Tigers flipped five-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick from Georgia. The 6-foot-2, 212-pound linebacker is ranked 26th overall via the 247 Sports composite rankings, in addition to being the third-best linebacker in the country and the No. 3 player in Alabama.
It was the first five-star commitment for Auburn football since 2019. However, the Tigers weren’t finished and pulled off another head-turner on Saturday as Freeze flipped a five-star commitment away from Alabama.
Auburn is on fire in college football recruiting
Freeze has been working on five-star wideout Perry Thompson, another top player in the state of Alabama in the 2024 college football recruiting class.
Thompson is 6-foot-3, 203 pounds, and runs the 100-meter dash in sub-11 seconds. He’s also ranked 4th in the state of Alabama and 32nd overall in the 2024 college football recruiting class via the 247 Sports composite rankings.
The previous Auburn football coaching staff didn’t offer Thompson, which seems insane. However, the Tigers were able to get him on campus for an official visit this month. Then, after getting him back for the Big Cat Weekend (via 247 Sports), Auburn was able to pull off the flip Saturday.
It’s really a sea-change for Auburn in the realm of college football recruiting. The Tigers are now one of just seven programs to have a pair of five-star commitments in the 2024 class. Only Ohio State and Georgia have more.
That’s a pretty good place to be if you’re Auburn football and with Freeze in charge, the future is looking much brighter.
