The final recruiting weekend before camp starts next week is wrapping up and programs around the country are hosting events. Michigan football is no different as it’s hosting its annual BBQ at the Big House this weekend and pictures are floating around social media.

Usually, when you think of a football program hosting a recruiting event, you think of great food and good connections made between coaches and players and these recruits.

When the event is literally based around food with the term “BBQ” in the title, you have to kick up the quality of the food a notch. Maybe hire a local BBQ place to cater the event with some brisket, maybe some good burgers (no, it’s not too soon), maybe even some steaks, cornbread, seasoned macaroni, and greens.

Unfortunately, that’s not what Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines decided to do.

It looks like they may have just gone to Costco to buy some food in bulk before serving it to the masses on Sunday.

Just check out this horrid spread:

I mean, for a small child going to a gimmicky restaurant, this meal would be heaven. For a recruiting target, this is what you feed them if you don’t care about winning them over.

Don’t get me wrong, I could eat everything on that plate at a graduation party or something and not complain one bit, but this is a Michigan football event for recruits. This menu should be much better than a boiled hot dog, some Sam’s Club tenders, bland macaroni, undercooked tater tots, and a quarter-sized cookie.

Michigan football fans demand better

While Michigan has been one of the hottest recruiting programs in the country, the fans are demanding the Wolverines do better for the BBQ at the Big House.

All over social media, I’ve seen terms like “embarrassing” and “horrible” being used to describe the food options at the recruiting event. And they’re not wrong. For a prestigious program, you need to be bringing out the big guns. There needs to be a meal that sets the program apart.

Imagine Nick Saban and Alabama hosting a recruiting weekend and serving boiled hot dogs and stale chicken tenders. He would get absolutely roasted.

Michigan must do better next year.

dark. Next. One of these 8 teams will win the national title in 2023
