It’s been a big past week for Colorado football.

The Buffaloes just agreed to become members of the Big 12 next season, leaving the Pac-12 along with USC and UCLA following the 2023 campaign.

Obviously, the teams left over in the Pac-12 aren’t all that pleased by the development. And some of the coaches have since been asked about the development.

One such coach was Oregon’s Dan Lanning who didn’t hold back in the least when he was asked about Colorado leaving the Pac-12.

Honestly, while this is incredibly harsh and will likely make Colorado fans unhappy, he’s not 100 percent incorrect. Sure, he probably could have worded it a little differently as to not disrespect Colorado, but I’m positive he’s not too worried about that at this point.

I mean, Colorado is no longer going to be an opponent after this year.

Fact-checking Lanning’s comments about Colorado football

Lanning essentially said: “Well, Colorado has never won enough to help the conference out so why should we care if they leave?”

And it makes some sense.

Since Colorado joined the Pac-12 in 2011, the Buffaloes have had two winning seasons — and one of those was in the six-game COVID-19-shortened season. The Buffaloes have won three or fewer games in four seasons during that span. They’ve never won a bowl game since joining the Pac-12 and their last postseason win was 2004.

Colorado is also on its fifth head coach since joining the Pac-12.

So while Lanning was a little harsh with this statement, there have really only been two seasons in which the Buffaloes were legit contenders in the conference in over a decade. That’s not great and it doesn’t make programs like Oregon worry about losing them to the Big 12.

Either way, I have Sept. 23 circled on my calendar for when these two teams meet.

Next. One of these 8 teams will win the national title in 2023. dark
