Iowa State football player bet against own team vs. Texas and lost the bet
It’s been a wild couple of months in the state of Iowa as Iowa and Iowa State football players have been under investigation for illegal gambling.
The Hawkeyes have seen several players get suspended for gambling and the same goes for the Cyclones. It’s been just a wild ride and it makes everyone wonder how much more will come out.
There have been some crazy betting stories like Iowa’s walk-on kicker betting the under in the annual Cy-Hawk game under his mom’s name because he wasn’t 21 yet.
But an even crazier story was leaked on Thursday by Brett McMurphy who reported that Iowa State defensive tackle Isaiah Lee bet against the Cyclones in the 2021 matchup against Texas. Iowa State would end up winning that game 30-7. Not a great look.
Not only did he bet against his own team (won’t exactly instill confidence from his teammates) but he played in the game and he is also charged with tampering with records as part of the state of Iowa’s gambling probe.
Long story short, he’s in massive trouble.
Iowa State football continues to get bad news
It’s been a rough season for Iowa State football as Lee is just the latest to be involved in the betting controversy following starting quarterback Hunter Dekkers. Running back Jirehl Brock was also part of the betting probe and will likely be suspended because of it.
Iowa State fans are just hoping that nothing else comes of this probe, but it feels like we hear about a new player in hot water every single day.
Betting against your own team, though? Lee will have a tough time explaining that one.
