For the first time since 2010, BYU football will be part of a conference.

After spending the past decade-plus as an Independent following a departure from the Mountain West, BYU will be a member of the Big 12. They’ll join a few other teams as new members of the Power Five.

That means expectations won’t exactly be 10-11 wins right away like they had been over the past few years. That doesn’t mean the Cougars can’t surprise some people.

Let’s get bold ahead of BYU football’s first Big 12 season.

3. Offense won’t take a step back despite joining Big 12

BYU’s offense was solid last season with some quality running back play from Christopher Brooks and the dual-threat ability of Jaren Hall along with a strong year from Puka Nacua.

All three of those guys are gone, however.

Kalani Sitake has replaced when with quality players, though, and I expect the offense to not only not take a step back, but to be just as good as it was last season as an Independent.

Kedon Slovis was a great addition at quarterback as he has about 10,000 career passing yards and 68 touchdowns, Aidan Robbins will be very good at running back after posting 1,000 yards last year at UNLV, and I believe in this receiving corps, led by Keanu Hill and Kody Epps along with solid tight end Isaac Rex.

This offense will adjust quite nicely to the Big 12.
