Chris Klieman has become one of the best coaches in the Big 12 in just a short period of time. The Kansas State football coach has a 30-20 career record with the Wildcats and he’s been better than anyone could’ve hoped when Billy Snyder retired.

Now he’s fresh off a Big 12 title-winning season and fans are expecting a repeat.

With eight starters back on offense, including every offensive lineman and starting quarterback Will Howard, the expectations are high for the defending Big 12 champs.

Let’s get bold ahead of the 2023 season.

3. Jake Rubley or Avery Johnson take over as QB1

Will Howard is back at the projected starting quarterback for the Wildcats and while that’s a positive because he has a ton of experience, he’s probably not the guy who raises the ceiling of the offense.

Howard finished 2022 with 1,633 passing yards and 15 touchdowns with four picks and a completion rate of just under 60 percent.

Kansas State needs more from the passing game.

This is why I think Jake Rubley or Avery Johnson will eventually take over as starting quarterback and lead the offense for the remainder of the year. I think this will happen in the first month of the season.

Just in time to defend their Big 12 title.
