Kansas State football: 3 bold predictions for the Wildcats in 2023
1. Kansas State repeats as Big 12 champion
The media projected Texas to finish as Big 12 champion this season and Oklahoma is also up there as a top contender for the crown, but Kansas State deserves more respect.
I mean, this is the team that won the Big 12 in 2022.
How are people still overlooking what Chris Klieman is building? He has turned the program around in a hurry as it went from 4-6 in 2020 to 10-4 in 2022 and it looks like things are still trending in the right direction.
If the quarterback change happens early enough that the Wildcats don’t drop more than maybe one game (at Missouri?), I can see Kansas State catching fire against UCF to begin conference play and then cruising against some Big 12 teams on the road to start October.
On top of that, the run game is going to be dangerous and the defense really has to improve. It was 63rd nationally last season and it just feels like the right pieces are in place for Joe Klanderman.
Kansas State will steal one on the road from Oklahoma State, beat TCU and Houston, and lose to Texas before winning out. I can see the Wildcats making the Big 12 title game with 1-2 losses and winning yet again.
Is this the start of a special run for Kansas State?
