It’s that time of year when college football fans come out of a deep hibernation after watching months of baseball and being subjected to loads of preseason rumors and storylines to welcome the new season.

August is rolling along and everyone is excited about the return of college football. We are now seven-plus months removed from Georgia winning its second straight national title with a beatdown of TCU and you just know Bulldog fans are excited to potentially witness a three-peat this season.

TCU fans, on the other hand, are pumped to see if Sonny Dykes can provide a solid encore.

Fans are the subject of this article. From Michigan fans to Vanderbilt fans and everyone in between, every fanbase has its quirks, good apples, bad apples, and social media following. They’re all different and that’s not a bad thing. The variety of fans in college football is what makes the sport great — among other things.

So I’m going to do my best and rank the top 25 fanbases in all of college football for the 2023 season and I used my interactions with some of these fans, their attendance numbers, and overall stadium atmosphere to create this list. There may be an extra emphasis on attendance numbers to help me separate the fanbases that I’ve never interacted with, but I’m trying to be fair.

Without further ado, let’s dive into my top 25 fanbases, starting with a handful of honorable mention selections.

Honorable mentions: NC State, Oregon State, South Carolina, Michigan State, Rutgers, USC, Iowa State, and Virginia Tech (I could make this a top 50 fanbases post easily)
