When is college football Week 0 for 2023 and who’s playing?
We are officially down to zero Saturdays left without college football until January.
College football fans everywhere are rejoicing because football is back in just a matter of days and we don’t have to wait any longer to see ranked teams take the field.
Yes, Week 0 actually features a couple of ranked teams which is rare, but when are the first games of the season? When is this Week 0?
Well, you’ll have to wait no longer as Week 0 begins on Saturday, Aug. 26, with a game in Ireland pinning Notre Dame against Navy. It’ll be one of the most exciting matchups in the season and it’ll take place on Saturday afternoon, kicking off the 2023 regular season.
So with just a few days remaining until kickoff, which teams will be taking the field?
All college football Week 0 matchups
Who will be playing on the first Saturday of the regular season in college football?
- (13) Notre Dame vs. Navy in Ireland (2:30 p.m. ET on NBC)
Obviously this is the most intriguing matchup of Week 0. The Irish are ranked in the top 15 and Marcus Freeman finally has his quarterback in Sam Hartman.
- UTEP at Jacksonville State (5:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network)
This is Jacksonville State’s first game as a member of the FBS.
- UMass at New Mexico State (7 p.m. ET on ESPN)
This is what you call a “sicko” game. If you sit down and watch this one, you’re a sicko.
- Ohio at San Diego State (7 p.m. ET on FS1)
San Diego State usually fields a solid team and Ohio is going to try and pull off some MAC magic on the West Coast to start the year.
- Vanderbilt vs. Hawaii (7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network)
Clark Lea and Vanderbilt have been drastically improving, winning five games in 2022. Could this be the first step toward bowl eligibility for the Commodores?
- (6) USC vs. San Jose State (8 p.m. ET on Pac-12 Network)
Caleb Williams begins his Heisman Trophy defense against an upset-hungry San Jose State team. I wouldn’t bet on these Spartans, though.
- FIU at Louisiana Tech (9 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network)
Another “sicko” game to end the night.
And that’s it. Just seven games during Week 0 which will be just enough to hold college football fans over until the following Thursday when Week 1 begins.
