Whoever thought of the idea to incorporate a Week 0 into the college football schedule is an absolute genius. It’s mid-August, and instead of program staff, supporters, and media alike feeling antsy, wanting to simply press fast forward to Labor Day weekend for Week 1 of the 2023 campaign, we get to enjoy the summer sun whilst still taking some time out to immerse ourselves in the pageantry-filled setting that is college football.

This year’s Week 0 includes two top-15 ranked schools, one of which is USC football. From its historical home that is the LA Memorial Coliseum, the Trojans will be suiting up against in-state opposition, the Spartans of San Jose State.

Now I’ll reveal my three bold predictions for this all-California affair.

1. USC football will score 50+ points

Last year, USC eclipsed the 40-plus points barrier in 10 out of 14 games. However, out of those 10 outstanding offensive performances, the Trojans were only able to score 50 points or more twice, with one of those games being the season opener against Rice.

Thus, I foresee a similar story this time around as I’m predicting Tommy Trojan and Co. to hang at least 50 points up on the board against a mediocre Mountain West side in SJSU.

With Heisman incumbent Caleb Williams back for USC, coupled with Lincoln Riley providing his star quarterback with new elite receiving toys to toss to in Zachariah Branch and Duce Robinson, this offense will pick up right where it left off last year, in third gear.
